How to Design a CD Cover in Adobe Photoshop

Photoshop can be used to design CD covers, magazine covers, billboard designs, flyers, brochures and for so many other things. In this tutorial, I am going to describe the procedure of designing the CD cover. The process is lengthy but once, you are done, you will be amazed with the level of creativity you can achieve using Photoshop.

STEPS

1. I am going to use two images for designing the CD cover for Madonna songs. For this, I will use two images.
image
2. Open the Madonna image in Photoshop (File tab –>open). Now, open the puzzle image. Photoshop will open the second image in another file. In order to bring this new image onto the new layer. Select the marquee tool from the toolbar.
image
3. Press ‘Ctrl’ + ‘A’. It will select the whole image. Now press ‘Ctrl’ + ‘C’. The shortcut will copy the image. Go to the Madonna image and press ‘Ctrl’ + ‘V’. It will paste the image in a new layer onto the Madonna layer.
image
4. As you can see, due to the different sizes of the images, the puzzle needs to be readjusted. Press ‘Ctrl’ + ‘T’. Move the edges of the puzzle and readjust on the image so as the center block part of the puzzle appears on the face of Madonna. Lower the opacity to 47% from the slider at the top of the layers palette.
image
5. The next step is to adjust the Madonna layer. Select the thumbnail of Madonna layer from the layers palette. From the adjustment palette (present above the layers palette, if not go to windows—>adjustments), click on exposure.
image
6. From the properties window, move the sliders of exposure, offset, and gamma-correction. Set the values according to your image. For this image, I will use the following set values.
