Making Letterpress and Emboss Text Effect in Adobe Photoshop

In this tutorial, you will learn how to give letterpress an emboss effects to the text, by using adjustment layer, new layer style effects provided by Adobe Photoshop.

STEPS of Letterpress Effect

STEP 1

Go to file > new> create a layer by 700×400 with dpi, 72 inch

STEP 2

Download the black leather pattern image from the link (http://www.forwallpaper.com/wallpaper/leather-black-cracked-background-texture-116852.html) For making texture the background

STEP 3

Then insert the texture in Photoshop by going through the file > open > select the image > ok. Set layer’s Blending Mode to Overlay and Opacity to 55%.

STEP 4

Insert the image of grunge texture, Go to file > open > select the image > ok. Then adjust it with the help of pressing CTRL + T
 image

STEP 5

Go to image > New Adjustment Layer > Hue/Saturation (Ctrl + U) image

STEP 6

Go to Layer – New Adjustment Layer – Curves (Ctrl + M)

STEP 7

Convert layer’s Blending Mode to the Soft Light and Opacity to 84%
 image

STEP 8

Make a new layer then select the brush tool and choose a large soft brush with around 150px size and hardness set to 0%, set the foreground color to black and background color to white, holding shift brush around the edges. image

STEP 10

Got to Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur image
Turn the opacity in 84%

STEP 11

To unite the layers click on the top layer, hold Shift + Ctrl and click on the bottom layer. Then click Ctrl + G to group them, Select the Type Tool (T) and type in your text. I used a font called Myriad Pro, set to Bold, 95pt size, Spacing -10 pt. After you’ve typed your text do a right click on the layer and click Rasterize Type.  Double click on the text layer and hit the changes as below;

Shadow mode multiply color: #000000

Blend mode color: #000000

Blending mode color: # 192a2b,

FINAL RESULT OF LETTERPRESS

STEP 1

Create the background same as letterpress effect,

STEP 2

Again typing your text, same bold Myriad Pro with 95pt size and –10 Spacing, after you’ve typed your text rasterize the layer. image

STEP 3

Now apply the following Layer Styles to your text layer

After done changing to the new style, your result would be…

STEP 4

Now go to image > adjustment > curve > drag the lower part of the curve down (just like below) > ok.
